I have no advice to give you OP about how to defeat your apathy. Frankly, I've always found these "I'm don't know what to do next" threads confusing, as I have never experienced this "burnout" people speak of.
I've been playing EVE online since May 3, 2007 (wow, just realized it's been 6 years, 4 months and 15 days lol, in another 4 months my time in EVE will have been longer than my 1st marriage), and with the exception of internet service outages, vacations and needing a few days to repair a marriage or 2 that might have been strained by my gaming habits (or , in one case, strained by one of the wive's other boyfriends gaming habit........You just can't trust these Hoes you know), I've played every day.
Missions (high, low, null, cosmos), exploration, faction warfare, pvp starting in npc null and expanding everywhere including high sec war, SOV warfare, live events etc etc for more than 6 years. And STILL i find excuses to put out my laptop during a break at work to fiddle with EFT or EVEMON and i can't wait to get home sometimes just to die in a virtual fire. I've been playing other games like Tanks or Mechwarrior and a fitting idea dragged me out of that other virtual universe and right back into EVE.
Hellfire, I use a radio on my job everyday and more than once I've caught myself saying "quiet on comms" instead of "keep this channel clear for emergency traffic only" lol.
I've been on my IRL job for 17 years, 15 with my current employer. I train fresh out of training rookies. I've had former trainees come to me after 2,3 or 4 years on the job telling me about how they feel burned out or are considering doing something else. I tell them that I'm sorry if this is harsh, but I'm going to say it anyway because the truth is one of the most useful things you'll ever encounter....
...I tell them that maybe this job isn't for them.
It's not that they can't do the job (truthfully, a concussed monkey with a bad attitude and a drinking problem can do what I do everyday lol), it's that this is the kind of job that sucks real, moldy ass if your heart isn't fully in it. It's ok if your heart isn't in it, but be smart enough to get out before you hurt yourself or ending up hurting someone else.. There are other jobs.
Well, even though you can't hurt yourself playing EVE except for maybe carpal tunnel, it's a less pressing issue here, but the same thinking applies: If you heart isn't into this virtual hobby, walk away till it is, or stay away if it never is. There are other games. |
